MORE FRUIT, LESS SUGAR is what Crofter's Fruit Spreads are all about! When Crofter’s started in 1989, we sourced only organic fruits (and still do today). This early-adopted commitment is about health, yes, but also a world more. Literally. By refusing to source fruit from farms that use synthetic chemicals or GMOs, we’re encouraging natural biodiversity in plants and wildlife, keeping the waterways clean, and maintaining the earth’s fertile soil. In 2000, the USDA finally caught on to the greatness of organic and passed regulations. We continued doing what we were already doing. The bottom line? Even if you’re just looking for a new spread for your PB&J, you have the option of choosing family-owned brands that go the extra mile for the environment and the consumer.

The History of Crofter’s

Crofter's Organic is proud to be family-owned and operated. Gerhard and Gabi Latka (who still own Crofter’s today), founded Crofters in 1989 in Parry Sound, Ontario, a small northern commuinty in Canada. From the very beginning, Crofters had two major commitments, more nutritious foods and focus on sustainable agriculture. Long before natural and organic claims became popular, Crofters was already producing products that focused on reducing sugar content and fully committed to orgnaic agriculture. Today, Crofters has become the largest brand of organic fruit spreads in North America, and our commitment to our customers and the evironment has only grown stronger. .

Crofter’s Company Mission

MORE FRUIT, LESS SUGAR. Even when Crofter’s was just a dream, a nutritious, low-sugar, organic product was still the goal. We do, indeed, create tasty spreads, but every time we get in more fruit, or start the boilers, or cap another batch, we have health in mind too. Because your taste buds’ happiness should never be separated from your body’s wellness. Jam, Jelly, Preserve. These fruit-centric treats hold places in our hearts. But the truth is that traditionally every-single-one of ‘em is more than 50% sugar. That’s why we’ve taken this popular, cravable food and made a more modern, tasty, nutritious way to jam out by upgrading the fruit power and decreasing the sugar content by 33%. Each serving of Crofter’s is only 30 calories. Now that’s 30 calories well spent.

Benefits of Crofter’s

CWe know the fruit is what makes the spread, so we search the planet for flavorful varieties that are carefully cultivated and tended to. Our suppliers are one of the most important parts of our business, and although they may be across the globe, we consider them all to be a part of our fruit-spread-making family. Here at Crofter’s, our heart is in the conservation of the environment and the wellbeing of all living things, be they bear, bee, or human. That’s why we’ve focused on responsible farming and integrated sustainable processes into all facets of our business. We know that every little bit adds up to one big difference. We created a processing facility with an itty-bitty environmental footprint. We recycle 99% of our raw materials’ packaging, use a natural gas generator instead of relying on the grid, and we have our very own wastewater treatment plant which has reduced our water consumption by over 85%! We also have systems that ‘recycle’ heat to warm our buildings and provide us with hot water, preventing the need to run a seperate heating system. And of course, our jars are 100% recyclable.
