GoodSam believes in better chocolate. This brand serves up regeneratively farmed bars that are sweetened with allulose instead of sugar, and uses ethically sourced cacao sourced from local farmers in Colombia and Kenya.

The History of GoodSam

Founder and chief executive officer Heather K. Terry founded GoodSam in 2019 with the intention of bringing high-quality cocoa products from Colombia to the U.S. market. The brand works directly with farmers—especially those who are geographically isolated—who use regenerative practices that promote biodiversity and preserve the local region’s natural ecosystems. In an interview with Food Business News, she shares “these indigenous farmers have been practicing their way of farming for many generations. For them, it isn’t regenerative agriculture. It’s just farming. That’s lost on us as a Western audience because we tend to think we invented these things.” Although the brand started with cocoa, it now sources a variety of crops from farmers in both Colombia and Kenya, and has expanded into coffee, nuts, and baking mixes along with their signature chocolate bars.

GoodSam Company Mission

Heather Terry’s personal mission has always been to “develop trust between us and the people on the ground. If we don’t build those relationships, we’re dead in the water,” she says. As a brand, GoodSam strives to generate wellness from start to finish. That means you can enjoy a delicious experience that honors the origins of the ingredients and helps communities and ecosystems to flourish. GoodSam follows a direct-trade model that eliminates the need for middlemen in the supply chain. They work directly with local growers and pay organic and fair trade premiums. GoodSam also reinvests 1% of sales into farmers, cooperatives, and their communities.

Benefits of GoodSam

GoodSam’s supply chain centers around regenerative agriculture and relies on the wisdom of smallholder farmers and indigenous communities who have been using these practices for generations. Here are even more benefits of enjoying GoodSam.

How Regenerative Cacao Supports Farmers in Colombia

Rather than rely on unsustainable harvesting practices, GoodSam works closely with a farmers’ association that shares the same quality standards and community goals to create a more equitable supply chain. “When consumers are willing to step up and pay a little more, they are actually changing the world,” founder Heather K. Terry says.
