If you’ve heard about the potential benefits of omega-3s but aren’t sure what all the fuss is about, here’s a quick overview. First of all, there are two different types of omegas: omega-3 fatty acids, and omega-6 fatty acids. The body needs both for optimum health. Turns out, your body can’t make omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids, so it’s important to get them from your diet with the help of a supplement, when needed. Foods rich in omega-3s include: mackerel, salmon, cod liver oil, herring, oysters, sardines, and anchovies. For omega-6s, add these ingredients to your plate: nuts and seeds, soybeans, corn, safflower oil, meat, poultry, eggs, and fish.

The History of Nordic Naturals

Nordic Naturals was founded by Joan Opheim in Norway, but he got the idea after completing his MBA in California, when he noticed an absence of omega-rich cod liver oil—something most Norwegians take daily. He started filling an extra suitcase with Norwegian fish oil to pass out to friends, and developed a deep desire to share them with everyone. In 1995, Nordic Naturals began manufacturing its first product and now has a line with options for children, seniors, athletes, and even your family’s furry friends.

Nordic Naturals Company Mission

This brand is committed to offering the world’s most effective nutrients using the highest-quality ingredients. Every supplement is backed by science, formulated by experts, rigorously tested, and—believe it or not—even great tasting! Nordic Naturals also gives back by supporting both local and global organizations who are helping build healthier communities.

Benefits of Nordic Naturals

Fish for the Nordic Naturals omega-3s line come from clean waters and are bottled in an oxygen-free, nitrogen-rich facility to ensure freshness. Also, fish oils are Friend of the Sea (FOS) Certified, which means fish were caught from healthy fisheries that follow strict standards like requirements for specific fishing methods, by-catch reduction, and social responsibility. Headquartered in California, Nordic Naturals boasts a LEED Gold-Certified building, and its plant in Norway is 100 percent powered by unused fats from the fish oil production process. Most of its products—including fish oils, vitamins, and probiotics—are non-GMO, dairy- and gluten-free, and you’ll never find any preservatives, colors, or artificial flavors inside.
